Killing beasts is the preferred way to gain experience. However, don't
underestimate them...

A wielded(!) weapon and worn(!) armours might be more effective.

Fighting starts with an attack ('kill <being>'). You will automatically use
your (wielded) weapon of choice - or your bare hands. Spells and additional
hits may be possible once you have more experience.

If in wimpy mode, your legs will "run away with you" when you're near
certain death. Works most of the time.

The jungle is a fine place to practice, find things, and gain experience.
A sign in the church will help you find the novice jungle. Take the
opportunity to collect some weaponry on the way.

Cemeteries may be a bad idea for newbies - too dangerous to start with.
